Cravings are a very real part of the recovery journey, especially in early sobriety. When one hits, remember you have tools to manage it without giving in. Try this simple 5-minute action plan. First, check in with yourself: are you Hungry, Angry, Lonely, or Tired (HALT)? Addressing these basic needs can often lessen the craving's intensity. Next, take five deep, slow breaths. This calms your nervous system and creates a moment of pause. Then, reach out: call your sponsor, a trusted friend, or a family member. Just talking about it can shift your focus. If calling isn't an option, engage in a quick distraction: listen to a song, read an article, or step outside. Remind yourself that cravings are like waves; they rise, crest, and always pass. You are stronger than any craving, and you can ride this one out. Stay connected and stay strong.
