Cravings can feel overwhelming, but remember they are temporary, like a wave that builds and then breaks. When a craving hits, pause and recognize it without judgment. Don't fight it; just observe it. A helpful technique is called "urge surfing." Picture the craving as a wave: acknowledge its presence, feel its intensity, and then remind yourself it will pass. Often, cravings last only 15-30 minutes. Use this time constructively. Check in with yourself: are you Hungry, Angry, Lonely, or Tired (HALT)? Address these basic needs. Distract yourself with a positive activity: call a sober friend, go for a walk, listen to music, or do some deep breathing. Delay acting on the urge for a set time, even just 15 minutes. You might find its power diminishes significantly. This practice builds resilience, one wave at a time.
