Cravings are a powerful but temporary part of recovery. When an urge hits, it can feel overwhelming, but remember: it will pass. Think of a craving like a wave in the ocean. It builds, peaks, and then eventually crashes and recedes. Your job is not to fight the wave, but to ride it out. Acknowledge the feeling without judgment. Take a few slow, deep breaths. Distract yourself for a few minutes with a simple task, like drinking a glass of water, calling a friend, or stepping outside. Remind yourself that this intense feeling will subside if you just hold on. Each time you successfully ride a craving wave, you build strength and reinforce your commitment to sobriety. You are capable of navigating these moments.
